Dave Reichert is a Proven Leader With Experience Serving His Community
Dave Reichert’s record of service to others began in 1971 when he joined the Air Force Reserves’ 939th Military Airlift Command.
Following his time in the military, Reichert embarked on an historic 33-year law enforcement career at the King County Sheriff’s Office. Dave started as a beat cop before he was appointed (then elected) King County Sheriff where he led an 1,100-person organization for eight years.
As lead detective of the tenacious and dedicated investigative team, Reichert worked alongside officers, medical examiners, and volunteers to capture the monster known as the “Green River Killer” who senselessly murdered countless women in Washington State during the 1980s and 1990s.
Reichert was honored by the National Sheriff’s Association with their “Sheriff of the Year” award, was a two-time Medal of Valor Award recipient and was also given the Attorney General’s Award for “courageous action”.

Dave Reichert represents Washington’s 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Elected in 2004, he first came to national prominence as the detective who led the effort to capture the Green River serial killer. He serves on three committees in Congress, and is Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Suburban Caucus. RF: There’s been a lot of discussion so far this year about developing a Suburban Agenda that would be geared toward helping families in their everyday lives. You are part of a core group in the House of Representatives working on a plan to do just that. Could you tell us about this effort?
REICHERT: Up until very recently, we viewed our nation as one third rural, one third urban and one third suburban. That’s just not accurate anymore. America is overwhelmingly suburban, with less than 20 percent of constituents coming from rural areas or big citie
