Samuel Paul Walsh was born in Wimbledon, London, ENGLAND in 1951 to Irish parents, his mother from Limerick and his father from Ennis. He was educated in London and also in Limerick at Villiers Secondary School. He lived in Limerick from 1968 to 1990 and he now lives and works in Co. Clare.

 

He is on the Roll of Honour of Villiers Secondary School.

 

He studied art at the Limerick School of Art and Philosophy at Mary Immaculate College of Education, Limerick. He took his MFA. at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin.

 

He is closely associated with the beginnings of the Limerick Exhibition of Visual Art (EV+A/eva international) and was the founder of Quadrant, an annual exhibition for young artists held in the Belltable Arts Centre, Limerick which ran from 1993 until 2007.

 

He is an ardent promoter of contemporary drawing and to this end, he founded in 1987 with support from friends, the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing that was gifted by them to the Limerick City Gallery of Art in 1991.

Samuel Walsh is an Irish abstract artist. He is a member of Aosdána,[1] founder of the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing[2] and is closely associated with the beginnings of EVA International. Born in London in 1951 to Irish parents,[3] he moved to Limerick, Ireland in 1968, where he resided until 1990. He now lives and works in Co. Clare.

Walsh was born in Wimbledon, London on 17 September 1951, to Irish parents. His father, Thomas 'Tommy' Walsh, was originally from Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland and his mother Margaret 'Gladys' Walsh was originally from Limerick, Ireland. He spent his early years living near Wandswort

Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. He attended Dublin College of Art, 1952–5. Then moved to London, drifting through various jobs for five years, one as a professional guitarist; he also painted, showing at ICA and New Gallery. In 1960 moved to Liverpool, where in 1961 he began to exhibit at Liverpool Academy, being elected a full member in 1966. Walsh did a teacher training course at C F Mott College, 1962–5, while becoming increasingly identified with Pop Artists. He showed widely in north of England and in 1963 his portrait of Francis Bacon appeared at John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool – he was to show a lot there – from which Walker Art Gallery acquired it. In 1968 began teaching full-time at Liverpool College of Art, retiring in 1986, three years after his first serious illness and admission to hospital.
