Cold Sun

Actually, this book (published May 31, 2011) is not the book that I read. The book that I read is called "Dark Winter" (published Aug 19, 2014) but, while listed on Amazon, it is not listed on on goodreads for reasons unknown. I think "Dark Winter" is an updated version of "Cold Sun" and so both books deal with the phenomenon of the Grand Solar Minimum in which sunspot activity decreases considerably for a decade or more. This has the effect of driving down temperatures here on Earth and the book's claim is that such a decrease in solar activity is already upon us. The author warns that the planet needs to prepare for a period of sustained cold in which crop failures may lead to global food shortages. But what about anthropogenic global warming? The author claims that our Sun is the main driver of global temperatures and that humans have little effect on the climate. Biography:

John L. Casey is a former White House space program advisor, consultant to NASA Headquarters, and space shuttle engineer. He is one of America’s most successful climate change researchers and climate prediction experts. Mr. Casey is the leading advocate in the US for a national and international plan to prepare for the next climate change to one of a dangerous cold climate era. This new cold era is caused by a historic decline in the Sun’s energy output, what he calls a “solar hibernation.”

In the spring of 2007, he became the first researcher to announce this dramatic change in the Sun to the White House and the mainstream media. In addition to correctly predicting the hibernation of the Sun, recently confirmed by NASA and other science organizations, he has correctly predicted the end of global warming, and the long term decline in the Earth's temperatures.
