Buti staff

Tony was born in Collie and moved to Armadale when he was nine years of age. His mum (Mimma) was born in Roelands and raised in Yarloop and his dad (Andrea) emigrated from Italy as a 21 year old in the early 1950s. Tony has one older brother (Robert) and two older sisters (Jenny and Josie).

In Primary School Tony attended St Brigid’s Convent and Kingsley Primary School in Armadale.

Tony graduated from Kelmscott Senior High School in 1978 and entered the University of Western Australia to study for a Physical Education Degree.  He has completed further studies at UWA, Australian National University, Oxford University, and Yale University, obtaining a Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Laws, Masters of Industrial Relations and a Doctorate in Law.

Tony has worked as a high school teacher, lawyer, AFL player agent, and legal academic.  

On 2 October 2010,  Tony was elected as the Member for Armadale in the Parliament of Western Australia.

Tony has authored a number of WA Labor discussion papers in the area of education and domestic violence and drafted a number of private members

Maria Buti Ferret, MD

Maria Buti Ferret, MD, earned her medical degree from the University of Barcelona and her PhD in Internal Medicine from the University "Autonoma" de Barcelona, Spain. She is currently Professor of Medicine and Chief of Internal  Medicine and Hepatology at the Hospital General Universitari Valle Hebron, Barcelona. Dr Buti has worked in viral hepatitis for the 30 years, particularly in diagnosis and therapy of hepatitis B and C. She has been published widely more than 400 manuscripts in peer review journals  in the field of viral hepatitis and contributions to books. She is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Hepatology and Liver International.  She is part of the expert Committee in the Spanish National Plan against Hepatitis C. She is very active in clinical trials and has been principal investigator in many studies. Dr Buti was president of the Spanish Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and is an active member of EASL and AASLD.

Bimla Buti

Indian physicist (1933–2024)

Bimla Buti (19 September 1933 – 24 February 2024) was an Indian physicist who specialized in the field of plasma physics. She was the first Indian woman Physicist Fellow of Indian National Science Academy(INSA). In 1994, she was awarded INSA-Vainu Bappu Award.

Education

Buti obtained a BSc (Hons) and a MSc degree in Physics from University of Delhi. She was admitted to the University of Chicago for doctoral studies. She worked under the supervision of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar and in 1962 she earned a PhD degree in plasma physics.[1]

Career

After earning her doctorate, Buti returned to India and took up a teaching role at Delhi University.[1] Two years later, she went back to the US to work at Goddard Space Flight Center.

In 1968 Buti came back to India and took a job at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Vikram Sarabhai, the then Director of Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), invited Buti to join PRL, where Buti served from 1970 to 1993 as Associate Professor, Professor, Senior Prof
