The meteoric rise of women’s volleyball
WITH WELL-ESTABLISHED collegiate and professional leagues, all coupled with an seemingly undying fanbase, women’s volleyball continues to make waves as one of the most followed sports in the country. The magnetic personalities of coaches and players, the competitive playing field, and even the marketing of the sport and teams have all contributed to its present colossal following.
Humble beginnings
Making its local debut in 1910, volleyball was like most sports in that it had to find its footing before developing competitions. With the eventual University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) inauguration in 1938, volleyball was among the few sports able to begin a tournament for women in the collegiate ranks. Its inclusion immediately sparked support from fans and athletes alike once it was put into effect. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) followed suit in 1964. However, it would take 11 seasons before it would include a women’s division in the fold.

Alyssa Caymo Valdez (Tagalog:[ɐˈlɐjsabɐlˈdɛs]; born June 29, 1993) is a Filipino volleyball player who currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers. She was a member of the collegiate varsity women's volleyball team of Ateneo de Manila University in both indoor and beach volleyball. She was most outstanding as an indoor volleyball player where she brought multiple championship titles and a lot of honor for the university. She is a current member of Philippines national team. Her global recognition paved the way for her to play in other countries like Thailand for 3BB Nakornnont and Taiwan for Attack Line Volleyball Club.
Early life
Valdez was raised in San Juan, Batangas, to parents Ruel, who works in an automobile company, and Pablita, a public school teacher. She is the only daughter among four children.[1] She learned how to play volleyball by playing

The Ateneo Blue Eagles program has a women's collegiate varsity volleyball team which represents the Ateneo de Manila University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
History
The Ateneo Blue Eagles women's volleyball team was formed in 1975. They first played competitive varsity volleyball when they participated in the women's volleyball tournament of the NCAA (Philippines) in Season 51 (1975–76). The following year, Season 52 (1976–77), the Lady Blue Eagles won their first and only NCAA women's volleyball championship. They were unable to defend their title in the NCAA because Ateneo de Manila transferred to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in 1978. The team did no
