Michael Salomon (born in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, United States)[1] is an American music video/film director, who has directed many music videos, including many of Toby Keith's music videos. He directed the video for Metallica's "One", which was nominated for "Best Heavy Metal Video" at the MTV awards, and was declared one of the "Top 75 Videos Of All Time" in Rolling Stone's critics' poll.

He later won numerous awards, including the CMT (Country Music Television) "Director of the Year" awards in 1994, 1995 and 1996, Michael again performed his work, creating award-winning videos for Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood, Alan Jackson, Lonestar, Brooks & Dunn, over twenty videos for Sawyer Brown and others. His association with Toby earned Salomon the CMT Flameworthy Awards in 2002, including one for "Director of the Year" and awards in 2003 including "Video of the Year."

Mikael Salomon (born 24 February 1945) is a Danish cinematographer,[1] director and producer[2] of film and television.

After a long cinematography career in Danish cinema, he transitioned to the Hollywoodfilm industry in the late 1980s,[3][4][5] earning two Academy Award nominations.[6]

Salomon then transitioned to a television director career, whose credits include Band of Brothers, Salem's Lot, Rome, and The Andromeda Strain.

His directing awards and nominations include a Primetime Emmy Award and a Directors Guild of America Award.

Life and career

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Salomon photographed dozens of films in his native country, earning awards including the Robert Award and Bodil Awards. In the late 1980s, he relocated to Hollywood and shot his first mainstream American film with Torch Song Trilogy, a 1988 comedy-drama starring Harvey Fierstein, Anne Bancroft, and Matthew Broderick. Biography

Leading Danish cinematographer who by the age of 40 had some 50 credits under his belt, mainly in Scandinavian films. Salomon quickly built a reputation in Hollywood as an adept director of photography on epics, difficult shoots, and special effects extravaganzas. These successes soon led to directing assignments in TV and features. Salomon's credits in Denmark and Europe include Henning Carlsen's biopic of Gaugin, "Wolf at the Door" (1987), "The Flying Devils" (1985), and "The Baron" (1979). In Hollywood, he has worked on "Zelly and Me" (1988), "Torch Song Trilogy" (1988), James Cameron's underwater spectacle, "The Abyss" (1989), which earned him an Oscar nomination, Ron Howard's "Backdraft" (1991), for which he was Oscar-nominated for visual effects, and Howard's "Far and Away," his first film shot in 65mm.
