Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert, U.S. Navy (Ret.) is a native of Butler, Pa. (Western Pa.).

He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, majored in Ocean Engineering, and was graduated and commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in June 1975. Admiral Greenert completed studies in nuclear engineering and entered the nuclear submarine force.  Subsequently, he was certified to operate, manage and supervise naval nuclear reactor systems. His service in submarines culminated in command of the submarine USS HONOLULU (SSN 718) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

His Navy career has given him the opportunity to serve as: Commander, U.S. Forces Micronesia; Deputy Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Deputy Comptroller, Dept. of the Navy; Chief Financial Officer, U.S. Navy; Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet (Asia-Pacific); Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; Vice Chief of Naval Operations (Deputy CEO/COO); and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO, 2011-2015).

A native of Butler, Pennsylvania, Admiral Jonathan W. Greenert graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1975 and completed studies in nuclear power for service as a submarine officer. His career as a submariner includes assignments aboard USS Flying Fish (SSN 673), USS Tautog (SSN 639), Submarine NR-1 and USS Michigan (SSBN 727), and command of USS Honolulu (SSN 718) from March 1991 to July 1993. His fleet command assignments include Commander, Submarine Squadron 11; Commander, US Naval Forces Marianas; Commander, US 7th Fleet (August 2004 to September 2006); and, Commander, US Fleet Forces Command (September 2007 to July 2009).

Jonathan William "Jon" Greenert (born May 15, 1953)[1] is a United States Navyadmiral currently serving as the 30th Chief of Naval Operations. He previously served as the 36th Vice Chief of Naval Operations from August 13, 2009, to August 22, 2011.[2] Prior to that, he served as Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command from September 29, 2007, to July 29, 2009, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Integration of Capabilities and Resources from September 2006 to September 2007 and Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet from August 2004 to September 2006. He assumed his current assignment on September 23, 2011.

A native of the Pittsburgh suburb of Butler, Pennsylvania,[1] he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering and completed studies in nuclear power for service as a submarine officer.
