Issue d'une famille de chanteurs, avec un père chantant le sahroui (saharien) algérien, Abdelhamid Ababsa[1],[2] et une sœur, Naïma Ababsa, qui chantant le assimi (algérois)[3].

À ses débuts, elle interprète des chansons algériennes et maghrébines, puis égyptiennes et moyen-orientales[4]. Connue au Maghreb comme «Soltanate Ettarab» (reine du chant arabe), elle s'est produite dans les pays du Moyen-Orient, Liban, Irak, Égypte, mais a été interdite sur le territoire égyptien à la suite de démêlés avec la justice égyptienne[4]. En 2018, elle a déclaré mettre fin à sa carrière[5].

Fella Ababsa was born in the Paris suburb of Plaine Saint Denis, then moved to Algeria with her family a couple of years later. She comes from a well-known Algerian artistic family. Her father Abdelhamid Ababsa was a poet, musician and singer. Her brother Najeeb is a popular singer and so is her sister Naima.

From a very young age she was surrounded by Andalousian and Algerian music, and learnt the piano and the Oud as well as other musical instruments.

At 15 years of age she joined musical groups in the capital, then aged 20 she left for a series of shows in London where she stayed for several years and perfected her knowledge of oriental music.

Fella Ababsa, Algerian pop singer, was born to a poet, musician and singer Abdelhamid Ababsa.

Fella grew up with the sound of Algerian popular and Andalusian music, she early showed a special musical talent. Later, with a rocky, melodious voice, Fella seduced Andalusian and popular Algerian audience and made her first steps into Arab scene.

At the age of 20, Fella Ababsa moved to London to learn more about music. However, Fella released her first single “Tachakkorat” much later. The song was a big hit and took her to the front of Arab musical scene.

Fella’s most popular album is “Ahl Ettarab” in which the singer criticizes the new wave of singers less talented compared to classical artists.
