Tina Huang was born in Dallas and raised in New York. She is first generation Taiwanese-American and is a fluent Mandarin speaker. Raised in Chinatown and the Lower East Side of New York City, she studied theatre at LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts and NYU's Tisch School of Arts where she graduated with a B.F.A. in acting, directing and design.

Then the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Tina was born and lived with her mother, brothers and grandfather. Her father went back to New York because he couldn't find work in Dallas at the time. When Tina turned five, her parents just wanted to live together again, and so the family moved back to New York, being for her a cultural shock moving from the country side to NYC, and she felt "like I was really intellectually challenged.
